3,021 civilians killed in Afghanistan in 2011: UN

A total of 3,021 Afghan civilians had been killed in 2011, said United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in its annual report released here on Saturday.
"In Afghanistan 3,021 civilians had been killed in 2011 which indicates 8 percent increase compared with 2010," said the UNAMA report.
According to the report, a total of 2,790 civilians were killed in 2010 in the war-ravaged country, Xinhua reported.
In 2011, 2,332 civilians or 77 percent of the civilian death toll had been killed by militants (Taliban and other rebel groups), 410 killed by pro-government forces and 297 left dead by unknown people, the report added.
