“Yingluck” Promises To Restore Confidence In Thailand

BANGKOK, November 8 (TNA) – Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Tuesday announced a strategy to fight against the ongoing floods while vowing to restore confidence in Thailand and its economy. Yingluck told reporters at the government house that her government has the three-stage strategy to tackle the ongoing crisis. According to the Thai premier, in the first stage, her government would launch rescue operations to urgently help all flood victims. Justice Minister Pracha Promnok will be responsible for the operations which will take about 2-3 months. In the second stage, the government will implement short-term post-flood measures to restore the country’s economy, infrastructures and the quality of life of people. Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit will take charge of the “restore” operations. The third phase will focus on “rebuilding” confidence in the country. The government will set up two committees to work out measures to solve the problems in the long-run. The first committee is a panel for national reconstruction and future headed by Virabongsa Ramakura. It is tasked to propose national strategies and work with overseas advisors. Committee members include the interior minister and Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong. The second committee, on the other hand, is tasked to work out a master plan on water resource management, city planning and irrigation. The committee has commerce minister as a head of the panel and Sumet Tantivejkul as an advisor. Yingluck said “the government views the problems as a national agenda. It promises to restore confidence in Thailand so that it can move forward securely. It is now time for us to join forces in the restoration and rehabilitation efforts to get the country out of the crisis.” (TNA)
