Number of vehicles up, gasoline consumption down in Turkey
ANKARA (A.A) - The number of vehicles was up but gasoline consumption was down in Turkey in 2010, economy circles said on Sunday.
The number of vehicles rose by 80.7 percent in Turkey from 2000 to 2010. However, gasoline consumption declined 24.8 percent in the same period.
There were 8.3 million motorized vehicles registered to traffic in 2000. This number increased to 15 million in 2010.
However, the amount of gasoline consumed in Turkey dropped to 2,105,087 tons from 2,800,731 in the last decade.
Turkish citizens preferred diesel oil and LPG in the mentioned period. Turkey's diesel oil consumption was up 68.2 percent to 13,775,694 tons from 8,189,294.
LPG consumption rose by 95.2 percent to 2,500,000 tons from 1,280,331 tons in the last decade.
The overall fuel oil consumption increased to 16,971,485 tons from 16,153,849 tons in the mentioned period.
Moreover, Turkey's total fuel oil consumption was down 3.9 percent and its gasoline consumption declined 7.6 percent year-on-year in 2010.
Turkey's diesel oil consumption and LPG consumption were up 2.35 and 8.4 percent respectively.
Turkey earned 42 billion Turkish liras-TL (26.7 billion USD) from the taxes it collected from fuel oil and LPG in 2010.
