New Border Gate Between Turkey and Syria

NUSAYBIN (A.A) - The foundation of the new border gate between Turkey and Syria will be laid on January 29.
The construction of Nusaybin Border Gate --located in Nusaybin town of Turkey's southeastern province of Mardin-- began in 2008 after a field of land mines (216 decares) between Turkey and Syria was cleared.
Turkish State Minister Hayati Yazici, Syrian Finance Minister Muhammad al-Husayn and the Union of Chambers & Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) Chairman Rifat Hisarciklioglu will attend the groundbreaking ceremony on January 29.
This will be the first customs gate in Turkey that will be operated as a 'sister crossing' model together with Syria.
The gate will help Turkey to open to the Middle East easier.
Nusaybin Border Gate will ease work-load of Habur Border Gate 50 percent. Also, the distance in passages to Iraq via Syria will be shortened nearly 150 kilometers.
Officials target to open the gate to service within 2011.
