Today marks Kyrgyz Cinema Day

Bishkek, Nov. 17, 2020. /Kabar/. The Day of the Kyrgyz Cinema celebrated today.
Nov. 17 was established as Kyrgyz Cinema Day by the Decree of the Kyrgyz Government of Sept. 13, 1994 given the importance of film art in the cultural life of the peoples of Kyrgyzstan.
The date for the holiday was chosen due to the fact that a resolution on organizing a newsreel studio in Frunze was adopted on Nov. 17, 1941 by the Council of People's Commissars of the Kyrgyz SSR.
In 1961, the film studio was renamed into Kyrgyzfilm, and in 2002 it was named after outstanding Kyrgyz director Tolomush Okeyev.
Head of the Department of Cinematography of Kyrgyzstan Muktaly Bektenaliyev congratulated his colleagues on the holiday:
"2020 brought many trials because of the coronovirus pandemic.
All cinemas of Kyrgyzstan have been closed since the end of March. But on the other hand, films of our directors were a huge success on the international arena, we constantly receive happy messages from different countries that our new feature films, short films and documentary films take part in this or that film festival and receive prizes.
Bektenaliyev added that in recent years, cinema workers have made a great contribution to the formation of spiritual and moral potential of young people and to improving the cultural level of service to residents and guests of the capital, as well as in the regions of the country.
The head of the Cinematography Department addressed his colleagues, reminding that the 80th anniversary of the Kyrgyz cinema will be celebrated next year.
“We have already begun preparations for this epochal event,” Muktaly Bektenaliyev noted.
