Project of regional economic development of Batken Oblast discussed with WB Office

Bishkek, Oct. 1, 2021 / Kabar /. First Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of Kyrgyzstan Daniyar Imanaliev held an online meeting with representatives of the World Bank office in Washington (USA), where the issues of the project components of the Regional Economic Development Project in Batken Oblast were discussed.
The Finance Ministry of Kyrgyzstan reported that the purpose of this project is to stimulate regional economic development of Batken Oblast through targeted interventions in a number of sectors.
It is noted that this project will be implemented by the World Bank with a preliminary amount of USD 50-60 million with a period of 6 years.
The project covers 6 components of activities such as:
- Planning for sustainable development of territories;
- Maintenance of municipal infrastructure and basic public services;
- Strengthening agri-food clusters;
- Small grants program to support SMEs;
- Response to a possible emergency;
- Implementation support, monitoring and project evaluation.
The increase in the number of farmers, urban and rural producers who receive agricultural assets or services and access to highly profitable markets that benefit from improved quality and accessibility of infrastructure and services is expected to ultimately lead to an increase in the number of jobs created as a result of the Small Business Program activities, grants.
