Opening of Ak-Zhol - Kordai checkpoint held with participation of PMs of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan

Bishkek, April 2, 2021 / Kabar /. The opening of the Ak-Zhol - Kordai checkpoint after repair took place with the participation of Prime Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Ulukbek Maripov and Kazakhstan Askar Maminov.
The heads of government of the two countries got acquainted with the performed work.
The repair works at the specified checkpoint began in March 2020.
First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for National Security, Director of the Border Service of Kyrgyzstan Ularbek Sharsheev said that almost major overhaul had been made at the checkpoint.
“The total amount of the project was KGS 305 million, although KGS 342 million 335 thousand were planned,” he said.
Sharsheev noted that earlier the throughput of the Ak-Zhol checkpoint a day was 10 thousand people and 1 thousand 500 cars. Now the throughput has increased more than 3 times to 35 thousand people per day and 5 thousand cars.
Also, the lanes for cars were increased to 8, and the cabins for passport control from 18 to 52. In addition, the cabins were opened from the outside so that drivers could go through control without going inside the building.
After the opening of the checkpoint, a Kyrgyz-Kazakh intergovernmental council will be held in the city of Kordai, Kazakhstan.
