Kyrgyzstanis in USA hold peaceful rally near UN building

Bishkek, May 4, 2021. / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstanis living in USA rallied near the headquarters of the United Nations in New York to pay attention of the world community to aggression of Tajikistan. The protesters called on the world community to stop the military aggression of Tajikistan against Kyrgyzstan. The audience chanted “Batken, we are with you!”, “Batken live!”. Participants also held posters with the words "Tajikistan Stop Attacking Kyrgyzstan!" and “Tajikistan stop killing civilians in Batken!”. As a result of the clashes at the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border 36 people died, 189 injured in Kyrgyzstan. Over 100 buildings were burnt or damaged, about 33,000 civilians were evacuated from the conflict zone. The situation on the border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan near the Golovnoy water intake facility escalated on April 28, after clashes had sparked between residents of the two countries’ border areas. On April 29, clashes between Kyrgyz and Tajik servicemen broke out. Tajik sides used mortars, machine guns and Mi-24 military helicopters. A ceasefire was established between the countries on May 1.
