Kyrgyzstan sees significant decline in grain yields

Bishkek, Oct. 13, 2021 . / Kabar / . In Kyrgyzstan, as of Sept. 23, grain crops (without legumes, rice and buckwheat) were harvested from an area of 533 thousand hectares, which is 0.9% less than at the same date last year.
The National Statistics Committee of the republic reported that more than one million tons of grain was threshed (in the initially reported weight), or 34% less.
Abnormally high summer temperatures this year and the lack of irrigation water during the growing season led to a reduction in cereal yields. In the country as a whole, the gross yield of wheat decreased by 42.1%, barley by 48.7%, melons by 14.6%, fruit and berry crops by 6.5%, potatoes by 5% and vegetables by 1.6%.
