Kyrgyzstan to host national dialogue on food security

Bishkek, June 14, 2021 . / Kabar / . Kyrgyzstan will host a series of national dialogues on food security with stakeholders in the framework of the Food Systems Summit 2021 initiated by the UN headquarters, head of the Department of Agro-Food Value Chains of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Regional Development of republic Akimbek Bektenaliyev said Monday during a press conference at Kabar News Agency.
At the beginning of this March, Kyrgyzstan confirmed its participation in the global summit on food systems 2021, initiated by the UN headquarters.
"Thus, in the framework of the summit the Ministry will hold national dialogues, the key theme of which will be the creation of a sustainable food system of the Kyrgyz Republic through the introduction of innovative solutions, green economy and adaptation to climate change,” the specialist said.
In addition, current state of the sphere, availability, factors, risks and opportunities, as well as COVID-19 and its impact on the food sphere will be discussed during the dialogues.
The Agriculture Ministry said the summit aims to provide a platform and implement new decisive actions, innovative solutions and plans to transform food systems around the world, to use the changes adopted to ensure progress in achieving all Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Thus, three national dialogues, two of which will be inter-regional, will be held in Osh and Bishkek. The third dialogue will be the final high-level event to discuss the results of the inter-regional dialogues.
The planned events will take place in June 2021 and will be a driving force for new and decisive actions on food security and the achievement of the SDGs.
The Agriculture Ministry of Kyrgyzstan is supported by the UN system in the republic through the UN World Food Programme (WFP), the UN International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), overseen by the office of the UN Resident Coordinator in the Kyrgyz Republic, in organizing national and independent dialogues.
