Kyrgyzstan conducts cleanup all over country on World Cleanup Day

Bishkek, Sept. 18, 2020 / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstan will conduct the action "World Cleanup Day" on Sept. 19 all over the country, executive director of the Enactus Kyrgyzstan public organization Gulbarchin Suyunova said at Kabar News Agency.
She said that this action was started by the Estonian movement “Let’s do it”.
“Estonia was also drowned in mud and debris, and ordinary people organized an action. Within two hours, all of Estonia was cleared. 50 thousand people came out. Ten years have passed and people's thinking has changed, they began to go out to clean,” she said.
Suyunova emphasized that the main goal of the action is not just cleaning, but changing people's thinking.
“Because taking part in the action, cleaning up after someone, a person begins to understand that littering is not good. Psychologists say that if 10% of the population participates, it will affect the remaining 90%. The whole society can change. We do not just clean up, but we agitate people to clean up garbage on the principle of separate garbage. The whole society is involved in our action: business, government agencies, ordinary citizens, and public organizations,” she said.
The collected garbage is sorted, some of it is sent for recycling.
Suyunova said that 180 countries of the world are participating in the World Cleanup Day campaign. Kyrgyzstan ranked first in terms of human participation as a percentage of the total population.
“In Kyrgyzstan, we expect the participation of 50 thousand people this year. Last year, 624 thousand people took part in it. This year was affected by the coronavirus pandemic and local elections,” she said.
