Kyrgyzstan celebrates World Book and Copyright Day

Bishkek, April 23, 2021. / Kabar /. The World Book and Copyright Day has been celebrating today in Kyrgyzstan, chief specialist of the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic Rinat Bakeyev told during a press conference at Kabar Agency.
He said that within the framework of the World Book Day, a week of books will be held in all schools and libraries of the country. Concert programs, competitions, theatrical performances, exhibitions and fairs dedicated to books and reading have been prepared within the framework of this event.
“The main goal of the Book Week is to promote the culture of reading in Kyrgyzstan, to recognize the important contribution of writers, poets, and publishers to the cultural development of the country,” he said.
Director of the Republican Library for Children and Youth Roza Sultangazieva said that more than 1,000 events are planned throughout the country as part of the Book Week. “Our library has a computer laboratory where children are engaged in computer programming, computer modeling and other research using 3D pens and 3D printers. There will also be an opening of a new studio “Iyne-zhip” for adult education,” she said.
Liana Gertch, director of the Okuu Keremet project in the Kyrgyz Republic, noted that the support of teachers, parents and other family members is important in popularizing the culture of reading among children.
“I want to note that the education system of Kyrgyzstan was able to maintain a high level of education for children, but many libraries face difficulties in providing children and young readers with a variety of books that meet the requirements of children. The Okuu Keremet project is aimed specifically at providing children with modern literature. To date, we have adapted more than 340 types of books of different genres. These books will be available to everyone on the website of the Ministry of Education. We are also working to provide schools in Kyrgyzstan with books. In 2021, we plan to print about 900 thousand books and distribute to schools in the country,” Gertch said.
