Kyrgyzstan’s delegation attends 64th session of IAEA General Assembly in Vienna

Bishkek, Sept. 22, 2020. /Kabar/. A delegation of Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, headed by Secretary of State Azamat Mambetov is taking part in the 64th session of the General Assembly of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
According to the press service of the Emergency Ministry, the IAEA General Assembly session is held in Vienna International Centre on Sept. 21-25, 2020 with the participation of high-ranking representatives of more than 170 countries.
The head of Kyrgyzstan’s delegation addressed the plenary session of the IAEA conference with the information about the achieved effective results of cooperation in the field of radiation safety, about the active and consistent work aimed at ensuring environmental safety from radioactive contamination, and about the solution of tasks on reclamation of tailing dumps in the territories of former uranium mining and processing enterprises in Kyrgyzstan.
Information on the progress in implementing the Agreement between the Kyrgyz Government and the EBRD on operations under the Environmental Remediation Account for Central Asia, a new fund for the rehabilitation of uranium mining facilities in Central Asia, was also provided.
In addition, the main purpose of the Kyrgyz side's participation was to seek international support for attracting donor funds to the Multilateral Environmental Rehabilitation Trust Fund in Central Asia, as well as to explain the situation with uranium tailings dumps in Kyrgyzstan and appeal to donors to contribute to solving the problem of financing the rehabilitation of the Min-kush, Shekaftar and Mailuu-Suu tailings dumps.
