Kyrgyz parliamentary delegation in St. Petersburg participates in conference on terrorism

A delegation of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic led by Speaker Talant Mamytov took part on Friday in an international parliamentary conference "Global Challenges and Threats in the Face of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Terrorism and Violent Extremism” in St. Petersburg, the press service of the Kyrgyz Parliament reported. In his speech, Talant Mamytov noted that amid the struggle of the world community with the COVID-19 pandemic the problem of terrorism and extremism has not lost its former relevance and acuteness and remains the main threat to global and regional security. He expressed Kyrgyzstan's concern about the spread of ISIS ideology and other radical groups, active propaganda and recruitment of compatriots into terrorist ranks, the situation in Afghanistan and the Middle East. "We must fight together, overcoming manifestations of terrorism and extremism, and related processes, such as drug trafficking, human and arms trafficking, money laundering, financing of terrorism and corruption," Talant Mamytov said. In conclusion, the speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament informed the conference participants about the successful Meerim humanitarian mission to return citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic from the Republic of Iraq, aimed at rescuing children in an extremely life- and health-threatening situation.
