Kyrgyz Parliament to consider today candidate for post of acting president

Bishkek, Oct. 16, 2020 / Kabar /. Deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh will take note of the resignation of President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov at today’s meeting. The agenda also includes of taking of the oath by deputy from Ata Meken faction Omurbek Tekebayev and consideration of a candidate for the post of acting president of the country, the press service of the Parliament said. President Sooronbay Jeenbekov and Prime Minister Sadyr Zhaparov will participate at the meeting. Sooronbay Jeenbekov announced his intention to resign on Thursday. According to the Constitution, in case of the resignation of the president, the speaker of parliament becomes acting head of state. If the speaker is unable to act as president, then powers are transferred to the prime minister.
