Int’l experts arrive in Kyrgyzstan to train medics to identify COVID-19 variants

Bishkek, May 12, 2021 . / Kabar /. International experts are again supporting laboratories in Kyrgyzstan to combat an epidemic of coronavirus infection, the press service of the republic’s Health Ministry reported Wednesday. A joint medical mission from Charité University of Berlin, the Martsinovsky Institute for Medical Parasitology, Tropical and Transmissible Diseases, and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH (German Society for International Cooperation), funded by Germany, arrived in Bishkek again on Tuesday. One of the main activities of the seven-member mission is training in detecting different variations of coronavirus in laboratories in Kyrgyzstan. Besides, staff from state laboratories in Bishkek and Osh cities will be trained in diagnostics and biosafety. In addition to the transfer of technical expertise, 50,000 PCR tests and extraction kits will be provided to Kyrgyz laboratories. The mission will also provide reagents for sequencing virus variations for the necessary training. In response to the consequences of the pandemic, Germany has already supplied Kyrgyzstan with oxygen equipment, protective clothing, consumables for PCR tests and hygiene items. The German-funded emergency department of the hospital in Jalal-Abad was commissioned ahead of schedule in July 2020 to treat patients with coronavirus infection.
