Head of Kyrgyzstan’s CEC meets with observation mission of Turkic Council

Bishkek, Oct. 2, 2020 /Kabar/. Chairwoman of Kyrgyzstan’s Central Commission for Elections and Referendum (CEC) Nurzhan Shaildabekova met on Oct. 1 with Head of the delegation of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States, Deputy Secretary General of the CCTS Gismat Gozalov.
According to the press service of the CEC, the head of the Mission thanked the Election Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic for the invitation to the parliamentary elections, noting that he has repeatedly been an observer at the elections in Kyrgyzstan.
"As part of the reform of the electoral system, since 2015 the elections are held with the use of a new electoral model. Two new components - biometric voter registration and automatic vote counting - have been introduced since last elections," Shaildabekova said.
The chairwoman added that in order to prevent the spread of the epidemic, all necessary sanitary and epidemiological safety measures will be taken, which include maintaining a social distance.
"An algorithm has been developed, according to which on the day of voting contactless temperature control will be organized at the entrance to the polling stations. All members of precinct election commissions and voters will be provided with personal protective equipment (masks, gloves). Special pointing lines will help to ensure contactless movement of voting participants and observance of social distance. To avoid the risk of infection, voting premises will be regularly sanitized. Persons under observation, voters who have symptoms of disease or contacts with patients and want to exercise their active right to vote, should apply by Oct. 2, 2020 to the appropriate precinct election commission with a request to provide an opportunity to vote outside the voting premises on Oct. 3, 2020 at home," the CEC head said.
She noted the great contribution of international organizations to the preparation of parliamentary elections, thanking the Turkish Embassy, which allocated funds for identification equipment. Technical assistance was also provided by Japan, Germany and Switzerland.
CCTS Secretary General Gismat Gozalov thanked for the detailed information on preparation of elections.
"Previously our mission was divided into three groups and went to the regions, but this time it was decided for everyone to stay in Bishkek," he said.
The head of the Mission wished success in holding the elections and expressed gratitude for the meeting.
Kyrgyzstan’s parliamentary elections are set for Oct. 4, 2020.
