Head of CEC meets with observation mission of CIS Executive Committee

Bishkek, Oct. 2, 2020 / Kabar /. Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurzhan Shaildabekova met with representatives of the Election Observation Mission of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States, headed by Victor Guminsky. He spoke about the work of the mission in Kyrgyzstan since Sept. 14 and noted that after the 2015 parliamentary elections, the Constitutional Law of the Kyrgyz Republic was significantly improved. “In 2017, 2019 and 2020, the provisions regulating the conduct of parliamentary elections were amended to reduce the electoral threshold from 9 to 7 percent, as well as tightened sanctions for abuse of administrative resources and bribery of voters during the campaign. Measures were taken to ensure the participation of women in the distribution of deputy mandates and to ensure the electoral rights of persons with disabilities,” the head of the mission noted. As part of the long-term monitoring of the elections, the members of the mission got acquainted with the activities of the territorial and precinct election commissions of Jalal-Abad, Issyk-Kul, Talas, Chui regions, the cities of Bishkek and Osh. Observers from the CIS, taking part in the meetings of the Central Election Commission, noted the collegiality and transparency in its work, open discussion of the issues under consideration. According to the mission, the Central Election Commission is taking the necessary measures to prepare and conduct the elections. The mission continues to monitor the course of the election campaign and will present its final conclusions and assessments in the final document based on the election monitoring results.
