Gold and foreign exchange reserves of National Bank of Kyrgyzstan reach historic highs

The gold and foreign exchange reserves of the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan have reached a historic high of USD 3 billion 82 million, chairman of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic Tolkunbek Abdygulov told at a briefing. He specified that by the instruction of president of the country, the National Bank has been actively buying gold for the national currency in the domestic market over the past two years. “The measures taken by the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic allowed to increase the size of gold and foreign exchange reserves up to USD 3 billion 82 million, which allows covering the country's imports for 6.5 months. This is the historical maximum level of the country's gold and foreign exchange reserves since the opening of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic,” he said.
