British ambassador to Kyrgyzstan visits National Library in Bishkek

Bishkek, Jan. 19, 2021. /Kabar/. British Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Charles Garrett visited on Monday the National Library of Kyrgyzstan named after Alykul Osmonov and met with its director Zhyldyz Bakashova. According to the press service of the Library, during the visit the ambassador got acquainted with the activities and cultural centers of the library. The sides discussed the prospects of further improvement of the activity of the Center of British Literature and Education which is very popular among the readers of the National library, and also planned joint projects and cultural events at the National library in 2021. British Ambassador Charles Garrett presented the National Library of the republic with a gift of William Shakespeare's The Sonnets and A Lover's Complaint. Director of the National Library Bakashova expressed gratitude and appreciation for the gifted book, noting that the library has works by Shakespeare translated into the Kyrgyz language. The Center of British Literature and Education was opened in 2007 as a joint project of the British Council and the National Library. This center provides Kyrgyzstanis with access to books, dictionaries, methodological literature, IELTS exam preparation books, information materials about British education and electronic resources. Visitors to the library use the center's resources to improve their English and prepare for exams.
