Visiting Doctors Programme activated

Manama, Feb. 17 (BNA): A group of highly-qualified visiting consultant doctors are expected to arrive in Bahrain soon as part of a plan to benefit from overseas expertise. The Health Ministry has arranged for a consultant surgeon to join the pediatric ward at the Salmaniya Complex (SMC) in March 2016. In a statement today, Assistant Undersecretary for Hospital Affairs Dr. Waleed Al-Manea said that a consultant doctor would be visiting the Neurosurgery ward on a monthly basis, in addition to another consultant who will join the Department of Neuroscience. A medical delegation of Saudi specialists and consultants will also arrive in Bahrain to treat kidney disease patients. His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa gave directives to intensify the Visiting Doctors Programme to treat patients in Bahrain. Under the scheme, leading consultants will arrive in Bahrain to treat critical cases and benefit from their expertise in diagnosing diseases and conducting delicate surgeries. Last year, 15 leading consultants hired from Spain, France, India, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, The US, the UK and Lebanon treated more than 150 patients of different age categories in the departments of pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, orthopedics, Interventional radiology, neurology, Laryngology and other medical specialties.
