US Ambassador to NINA: "Negotiations On Withdrawal Are Underway And We Have Reached Some Agreements On Redeployment”
Baghdad (NINA) - The US ambassador to Baghdad, Matthew Tueller, said, "Negotiations on withdrawal from Iraq are ongoing and we have reached some agreements on the redeployment."
Tueller said in a telephone interview with a number of journalists, with the participation of the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA): "The meetings that took place in Washington on the 19th of this month are complement the meetings on June 11, and dealt with various economic and political issues and parallel to the strategic dialogue."
He added, "Al-Kadhimi's visit to Washington and his talks with President Trump and other officials, and their results, shows the two countries' seriousness in strengthening relations."
In response to a question from NINA, the ambassador explained: "The withdrawal or redeployment is linked to the next phase of the fight against ISIS, and there are ongoing technical negotiations on the issue and we reached some agreements on the American redeployment and the coalition in Iraq, depending on the circumstances."
He added that the role of missions, number and skills of the partners of the international coalition in Iraq will be determined by circumstances, and it is part of these technical talks currently underway.
He pointed out: "Iran intervenes and supports the militias, as well as the Turkish attacks take place because there is no strong government that establishes its sovereignty over all lands."
He said: "We understand that the challenges that the current government faces are great in order to achieve its goals by imposing security, providing jobs and overcoming the health crisis, and the role of the United States is to assist the government in order to strengthen it and to be a sovereign government, and we will work over time to build the economy and activate the private sector," And I believe that everything we do is completely consistent with the strategic agreement and common interests. "
He pointed out: "During the past 5 years, a lot of progress has been made with our Iraqi partners, and we are in the final stage and with its end there will be no need for American forces, and we do not want permanent military or permanent bases in Iraq, and there will be discussion with the Iraqi side about whether or not to stay." With the technical teams to determine the conditions for the final phase of the fight against ISIS, and we always hear many of our Iraqi partners demanding communication between the two sides.
He continued, saying: "We know that there are extremist voices striking US embassies, US forces and others, and they do not express the interests of the people, and if this extremist discourse triumphs over the interest of Iraq, it will negatively affect many areas of cooperation with the international coalition and not only with the United States." stressed “The American presence is based on mutual respect, sovereignty, and the desire to complete the mission to defeat ISIS and work on partnership with Iraq.” / End
