University of Qatar and Qatar Shell Sign MoU

Doha, June 16 (QNA) - The University of Qatar signed with Qatar Shell Research and Technology Centre a Memorandum of Understanding aimed to strengthen the existing partnership between the two institutions, achieve further cooperation in the areas of technology, research and development and creates initiatives in the interest of students and faculty members. The memorandum was signed by President of Qatar University Dr. Sheikha bint Abdullah Al Misned and Qatar Shell Chief Executive Officer and Board Chairman Wael Sawan, in the presence of Qatar University Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Mazin Hassana and a number of prominent figures in the University as well as representatives from Qatar Shell Research and Technology Centre. Under the agreement, Qatar Shell Centre offers full support for the various educational programmes provided by the university through support of technical and industrial exchange, the organizing of scientific lectures on a regular basis, the provision of training opportunities for students, organizing competitions and sponsoring of important events at the university. The MoU also provides for the establishment of a steering committee comprising representatives of both sides to implement the terms of the agreement and supervise the achievement of the highest standards of accuracy to help open up new prospects of cooperation between the two parties. The committee includes both Dr. Sheikha Al Missned and Wael Sawan. In a speech on the occasion, Dr. Sheikha said the partnerships that bridge relations between the academic and industrial sectors achieve many positive results such as the exchange of experiences and skills and enabling students to interact with representatives of the industrial sector and to benefit from their practical experience.
