UNESCO Registers Two Iranian Sites
Tehran, July 1, IRNA – Deputy head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization ( CHHTO) has registered “ Qaboos Dome” and “ Isfahan Jama’ Mosque” in UNESCO World Heritage List.
Masoud Alavian Sadr told on Saturday that following consideration of two dossiers of Isfahan Jama’ Mosque and Qaboos Dome in the 36th UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting, the two sites were registered as 14th and 15th sites of Iran in the list.
Concerning Qaboos Dome, he said it was considered as a masterpiece of human genius by creating a model of “ Grave-Tower” which is unique.
He added that the work belongs to 10th century (A.D.) and it is an architectural masterpiece and memorial building with special technology and unique geometry.
Isfahan Jama’ Mosque belongs to 8th century ( A.D.), and it was a fire temple belonging to the Zoroastrians and then it became a mosque during Islamic era and different dynasties completed the building.
The 36th UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting will last until July 6, 2012 in Saint Petersburg, Russia./end
