UN Stresses Its Support For Iraq's Unity

BAGHDAD, IRAQ (NINA) - The United Nations has confirmed its support for Iraq's unity and efforts to resolve its own problems in accordance with the constitution.
"Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari met with the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Mr. György Busztin , on the occasion of the end of his term," a foreign ministry statement said.
During the meeting, they reviewed the security and political developments in Iraq and the international support given to Iraq in the war against Daesh terrorist gangs.
The statement quoted Busztin as saying "I will leave Iraq and remain an advocate to Iraq wherever I go and work because our mission is to preserve the unity and stability of Iraq. I am happy with the great victories achieved by the Iraqis in their war against terrorism," stressing the need to continue supporting Iraq until security and stability are restored.
"We support the unity of Iraq and the efforts to solve the problems it is going through in accordance with the constitution," he said. "We are confident of the Iraqi people's determination to maintain its unity, overcome the challenges it faces, as it united and achieved the greatest victory against terrorists."
For his part, Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari praised "the role played by Busztin in the success of the work of the UN mission in Iraq and providing assistance to the Iraqi people in various fields. He called for the continued support of international organizations and the United Nations for Iraq in its war against terrorism and achieving security and stability."
"Iraq has achieved a global victory against Daesh terrorist gangs who came from more than 120 countries and this victory for all humanity," al-Jaafari said. "The world has never been united in an issue like standing by Iraq in its war against Daesh terrorist." Jaafari added.
He pointed out that Iraq has received 16 international posts in the past period and has won the support of the United Nations, the European Union, the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and has played a major role in Arab, regional and international issues by building bridges with the countries of the world and active presence in international forums "/ End
