UN: The Outstanding Issues Between Baghdad And Erbil Should Be Resolved Peacefully

BAGHDAD, IRAQ (NINA) - UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has stressed the importance of resolving outstanding issues between Baghdad and Erbil peacefully through political negotiations and on the basis of the Iraqi constitution. "I encourage both sides to take the necessary steps to create an enabling environment in which real negotiations can take place," Gutierrez said in a letter to Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) President Nechirvan Barzani. "I am encouraged that the Government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government have publicly expressed their openness to these negotiations on several occasions," he said. "We must prevent the destabilization of the current situation, in order to promote national reconciliation, to promote greater stability in a volatile region and to confront the threat that is still posed by Daesh organization," Guterres said./ End
