A UN Official Points Out A Significant Lack Of Support For Women And Girls Who Have Been Abused By Daesh

BAGHDAD, IRAQ (NINA) - The United Nations special envoy on sexual violence in conflict (Pramila Patten) said she found "a great lack of support for women and girls who were raped and forced into sexual slavery by the terrorists of Daesh organization."
"The survivors that I met with were like living bodies and some of them are largely detained, especially by their parents who do not want them to leave the camp and they have not had the opportunity to benefit from limited psychological and social support inside the camp," Patten told a news conference on Friday night.
Patten, who visited Iraq between February 26 and March 5, said, "Many women, who are still displaced, have expressed serious concern for their safety if they return home and fear revenge."
She pointed out that "the Yazidi women who have been persecuted in several historical periods expressed their desire to leave Iraq."/ End
