UN General Assembly Stresses Importance of Establishing of Peace Values, Sustainable Development

Doha, December 11 (QNA) - President of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly HE Nassir bin Abdulaziz Al Nasser has underlined the importance of ensuring cultural diversity and establishment of values of peace and sustainable development. In his speech during a session held within the activities of the Fourth Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, currently in session in Doha, HE Al Nasser underscored the role of good governance in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in order to establish peace and sustainable development plan taking into account the strategic relationship between cultural diversity and achievement of development. He stressed that the idea of the Alliance of Civilizations, adopted by the United Nations has played a major role in containing the differences and in promoting tolerance among peoples. HE al Nasser referred to the efforts undertaken by the UN General Assembly in this regard, pointing out that the Doha Forum will be a turning point in the history of the notion of strengthening the Alliance of Civilizations as a covering topics of cultural diversity, peace and development as well as establishes the interrelationship between them. He noted the importance of youth participation in the promotion of dialogue among cultures, saying that the Fourth Forum will address the educational curricula to ensure entrenchment of a culture of dialogue and the emphasis on the role of decision makers to take advantage of the capacity of young people. He stressed the importance of partnerships between all sectors of society to promote the culture of dialogue, stressing the need to redouble efforts to promote and lead this "global agenda" that contribute to promoting the development of societies.
