UN Bahrain to commemorate anniversary

, Oct. 21 (BNA): The United Nations Day will be marked by the UN Country Team (UNCT) in Bahrain on Monday, 26 October, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the United Nations. On 26 June 2014, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced the start of the global celebration of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations, which aims to honour the historic breadth of the Organization’s development, security and human rights work. The 70th anniversary of the United Nations is an opportunity to reflect on the UN’s history and take stock of its enduring achievements. In line with this global campaign and in honour of the 70 year milestone, the UN Country Team in Bahrain with the support of the Government of Bahrain will commemorate this year’s United Nations Day with a reception to shed light on the historic partnership between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the UN. The highlight of this year’s reception will be the launch of a trailer of a documentary focusing on the history of Bahrain’s engagement with the UN from independence to its growing international role on the world stage. This will be followed by the official inauguration of a photo exhibition showcasing key moments from Bahrain’s participation at the UN. Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister for Foreign Affairs will deliver a statement on behalf of the Government of Bahrain. This will be followed by a statement from Peter Grohmann, UN Resident Coordinator & UNDP Resident Representative.
