UN Bahrain to commemorate 70th UN anniversary

Manama, Oct. 25 (BNA): The UN Country Team (UNCT) in Bahrain will commemorate, with the support of the Government of Bahrain, the 70th Anniversary of the United nations on Monday.
The ceremony, to be attended by the Foreign Affairs Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative Peter Grohmann, will shed light on the historic partnership between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the UN.
On June 26, 2014, the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced the start of the global celebration of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations, which, he said, aimed to honour the historic breadth of the organisation's development, security and human rights work.
The 70th anniversary of the UN is an opportunity to reflect on the UN's history and take stock of its enduring achievements, Ban Ki-moon said.
The Foreign Minister and the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative will deliver speeches on behalf of the Government of Bahrain and the UN, respectively.
The ceremony will feature the launch of a trailer of a documentary focusing on the history of Bahrain's engagement with the UN from Independence to its growing international role on the world stage.
This will be followed by the official inauguration of a photo exhibition showcasing key moments from Bahrain's participation at the UN.
