JAKARTA, May 26 (Antara) - The UN has awarded a Dag Hammarskjöld medal to Indonesia's Chief Private Julius Nggaba Ndapakamang who was killed in the UN peace mission in Sudan. The UN Secretary General presented the medal to Indonesian Permanent Representative to UN in New York, Ambassador Dian Triansyah Djani, representing Indonesia, the Indonesian Permanent Representative said in a press statement released on Wednesday. Dag Hammarskjöld is the UN's highest token of appreciation bestowed upon Ndapakamang who was killed while serving the United Nations African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) in 2016. Djani stated that while he was proud of Indonesian soldiers' contribution to global peace, he was saddened to hear that an Indonesian soldier was killed while performing UN peace mission. Indonesia lost a total of 35 personnel while they performed noble duties to maintain the global peace between 1957 and 2017, he noted.
