Turkmenistan discusses cooperation with French firms

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has received the heads of major French companies and discussed mutually beneficial cooperation, the Turkmen government said.
Several meetings were held with Dresser Rand president Vincent R. Volpe, VINCI Construction president Alain Bonnot and CIFAL head Gilles Remy in Ashgabat.
"We focus on establishing productive relations with French businessmen," the Turkmen leader said. France is a country with developed market economy, which has innovative technologies. It serves as a supplier for many high-tech industries."
He said that the accelerated industrial development stipulated the increased demand of the national economy in the production of high technologies and modern equipment.
Volpe said that the interest in Turkmenistan is stipulated by the country's enormous economic potential, and the Turkmen leader's policy of open doors and mutually beneficial cooperation.
Dresser Rand discussed the prospects for long-term cooperation in the fuel-energy complex and equipping modern compressor equipment, transmission infrastructure facilities.
According to the government, VINCI Construction head informed the Turkmen head about the progress of the projects. In particular, they discussed the progress on construction of the Turkmen government building, which is being built in the center of the Turkmen capital.
Gilles Remy said that his company intends to increase the productive cooperation with Turkmenistan in various areas, including fuel- energy sector, industrial and civil engineering, communications and electronics sectors, consulting and expert services.
At this stage, the French companies in Turkmenistan are presented in such areas as construction, transport, tourism and energy. Bouygues and Thales International operate on the local market.
