Turkmenistan, China sign agreement on additional gas supplies
Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Nov. 23 / Trend H. Hasanov /
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov is on a state visit in China. A new agreement on additional gas supplies via the Turkmenistan-China pipeline was signed, Turkmen President told media today, Chinese media reported.
The contract provides for an increase in the gas supplies for 25 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year. It will bring the total volume up to 65 billion cubic meters of gas per year taking into account the previous arrangements.
The pipeline to China via Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan was commissioned in December 2009. The project was implemented by CNPC, having a license to extract raw materials on the Turkmen right bank of the Amu Darya River.
President Berdimuhamedov said that this project (gas pipeline) is of strategic importance to both parties. It meets long-term interests of Turkmenistan and China and corresponds to the logic of the global economic development, where energy supplies play an increasing role.
