Turkish security forces intercept nearly a quarter million illegal migrants in past five years

ANKARA (A.A) - November 14, 2011 - Turkish security forces and border guards have captured 222 thousand illegal migrants in Turkey over the past five years, data showed. Turkey is a major transit country for illegal migrants from poorer and conflict-ridden southern countries of the Middle East and Africa moving north.    Data showed that 4,764 human traffickers have been arrested in the given period. Nearly 28 thousand migrants were apprehended so far this year on the borders between the Greece and Turkey  Of the total migrants apprehended in the past five years, 10 thousand of them were Turkish nationals.
