Turkish parliament speaker says territories of a country should not be used as ground for terrorist acts
ANKARA (A.A) - Turkey's parliament speaker said on Thursday that territories of a country should not be used as a ground for planning of terrorist acts.
Cemil Cicek said Turkey and Iraq should not let elements that would harm their brotherly relations.
"Territories of a country should not be used as a ground for planning of terrorist acts and training of terrorists," Cicek said as he met Iraqi Parliament SPeaker Usama al-Nujeify in Ankara.
Cicek said Turkey had always supported Iraq's independence, political unity and territorial integrity and Turkey did not look at developments in Iraq in technical, sectarian or religious perspective.
"We accept all of them as brothers and we are trying to keep at same distance to everybody. We believe such a stance will contribute to both countries and regional peace," he said.
Cicek also said Turkey was in principle supporting Iraq's initiatives to host a parliament speaker meeting in Iraq in order to discuss regional problems.
Moreover, al-Nujeify said the Iraqi constitution did no way allow any group to use the Iraqi soils as a place to harm another country, and Iraqi executives were doing what they had to do regarding terrorism harming Turkey.
Al-Nujeify said Turkey had always supported Iraqi people without making any discrimination among groups, and had never assumed any attitude that would violate Iraq's territorial integrity and esteem.
The Iraqi parliament speaker said that Iraq was willing to hold a consultative meeting in Baghdad with participation of parliament speakers of Turkey, Iran and Saudi Arabia in order to prevent some countries from militarily countering each other and to evade major threats.
Cicek later hosted a luncheon in al-Nujeify's honor.
