Turkish musician & writer Livaneli to attend UNESCO panel meeting on intercultural dialogue
PARIS (A.A) - 04.03.2011 - Prominent Turkish musician and writer Zulfu Livaneli will represent Turkey at an upcoming meeting of the "High Panel on Peace and Dialogue among Cultures" founded by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The panel, which was set up by UNESCO last year and held its first meeting in the French capital of Paris in February 2010, will convene for the second time in New York, USA on March 11 this year.
UNESCO's Goodwill Ambassador Zulfu Livaneli will represent Turkey at the gathering whose theme will be "Building Peace: Reconciliation Through The Power Of Education, The Sciences And Culture".
Nobel Prize winner in Physiology & Medicine Gunter Blobel, former Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik, former Portuguese Prime Minister and High Representative of the Alliance of Civilizations initiative Jorge Sampaio and Academy Award winner actor Forest Whitaker will be among the participants of the meeting.
Last year, Topkapi Palace Museum's Director Prof. Ilber Ortayli attended the panel meeting on behalf of Turkey.
"High Panel on Peace and Dialogue among Cultures" was established last year by UNESCO's Director-General Irina Bokova in an effort to strengthen UNESCO's activities pertaining to dialogue among cultures and peace.
The panel comprises of eminent personalities, invited to foster reflection on the new dimensions of peace in the contemporary world, in an era of cultural diversity and conditions of globalization and the role dialogue among cultures can play.
