Turkish FM likens French denial bill to dictator's move

ANKARA (A.A) - Turkish foreign minister has lashed out at French parliament which had approved of a bill making it a crime to deny Armenian allegations regarding the Ottoman era incidents of 1915, comparing it with "the Middle Eastern dictatorships." "There is no difference between the resolution of the French parliament had passed and the Middle East's dictators," Ahmet Davutoglu told a gathering of Turkish ambassadors in capital Ankara. The lower house of the French parliament on Thursday adopted a bill that penalizes denial of the Armenian allegations with a prison term of one year and a fine of 45 thousand euros.  The bill needs approval of the French senate before winning any legal effect.    Turkey recalled its ambassador in Paris in retaliation and cancelled all political and military meetings as well as joint military maneuvers.     "Yesterday's bill took Europe back to the middle ages. Just as the Gadhafi regime, Bin Ali regime and the Assad regime dictated their peoples what to think and what not to think, the French parliament and leaders behind it dictated Europeans what not to debate," Davutoglu said.  He said the French parliament stepped over all the values Europe had championed and it risked the future of European democracy in return for political gain. "We will make our voices heard in every place in the world. We will not yield in to pressures," he said.
