TURKISH EMBASSY IN BAKU GIVES PLAQUES AND AWARDS TO 30 AZERBAIJANI JOURNALISTS
BAKU (A.A) - 05.08.2010 - A plaque and award ceremony took place at the Turkish Embassy in Baku, Azerbaijan on Wednesday.
The ceremony was held on the occasion of the 135th anniversary of the establishment of Azerbaijani press.
Turkish Embassy in Baku presented 30 Azerbaijani journalists with plaques and awards at the ceremony.
Turkish Ambassador in Baku Hulusi Kilic and Chairperson of the Press Council of Azerbaijan Eflatun Amashov delivered speeches at the ceremony.
Press activities in Azerbaijan began 135 years ago with the establishment of "Ekinci" newspaper by Hasanbey Zerdabi. The establishment of "Ekinci" was not merely important for Azerbaijan but Turkey as well. Azerbaijan's press day is also our press day, Kilic stressed.
I have been serving as the Turkish Ambassador in Azerbaijan for the past 2.5 years. I give high importance to the press. The press is the sun, light, bridge, road and everything. Yet the press must be objective and give accurate news. The press should not write wrong news, Kilic noted.
Ambassador Kilic presented Amashov with a plaque for his services to the Azerbaijani press.
The ceremony was attended by deputies, representatives of NGOs, journalists and staff members of the Turkish Embassy in Baku.
