TURKISH CYPRIOTS SAY GREEK CYPRIOT SIDE HAS NO NEW PROPOSALS

LEFKOSA (A.A) – 26.07.2010 – Greek Cypriots have not brought forward any "new proposals" under the ongoing Cyprus reunification talks, a senior Turkish Cypriot official said on Monday.
Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot leaders have been continuing UN-sponsored Cyprus talks since September 2008 to reunify the island.
Turkish Cypriot President Dervis Eroglu's Special Representative Kudret Ozersay said Greek Cypriot proposals represented nothing new.
On July 15, Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias made a three-point proposal, including the return of the fenced off district Maras (Varosha) in exchange for allowing Turkish Cypriots to start direct trade with the EU, an international conference on Cyprus, and a third offer which links property issue with territory and settlers from Turkey.
Ozersay said the idea of negotiating the property issue together with map and some other topics had already been discussed during talks two months ago. 
"If you make public an idea that parties discussed but could not reach a compromise, it is called image-making through media, not a new proposal," Ozersay said.
Ozersay said Greek Cypriots were aware of these facts, adding, "however, they are trying to confuse the issue in a bid to appear to have willingness for a solution by the end of this year."
"Greek Cypriot side is trying to bring these proposals in front of the international community as if they were something new. Greece and Russia seem to have given their support to Greek Cypriots," Ozersay said.
Also, Ozersay referred to Eroglu's remarks and said negotiations should be carried out around the negotiation table
