Turkish, Armenian musicians give friendship concert in USA

WASHINGTON, D.C. (A.A)- Young Turkish and Armenian musicians gave a friendship concert in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday.
Turkish and Armenian musicians performed works of Ahmet Adnan Saygun, Edgar Manas, Dikran Cuhaciyan and dedicated an anonymous song "Sari Gelin" to slain Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink.
Ayse Taspinar played the piano, Petros Boyaciyan the violin and Garineh Avakian was the soprano performer in the concert.
"Sharing cultural heritage is the best way to understand each other, learn from each other, and to get closer to our friends," Turkey's Ambassador to the United States Namik Tan said during the concert at his residence.
Tan said he had invited the Armenian ambassador to the concert, however the envoy did not attend the concert for a certain reason.
"We lived side-by-side with these people for a few thousand years. Our aim is to create a common future," Tan said.
Tan also said Turkish people were aware that one of the factors that contributed to Turkish music, language and culture was the Armenians.
Also speaking to reporters after the concert, Aysegul Taspinar said she had given a mini concert at an Armenian school, and she invited Armenian musicians to take stage in Turkey.
Petros Boyaciyan defined the concert as a good experience, and said he did not hesitate in giving a concert at the Turkish Embassy since music was universal and it had nothing to do with politics, races or color.
Avakian said peace was always an answer for a musician, and invited Taspinar to give a concert in Armenia.
