TURKEY'S MEDITERRANEAN COASTS FAVORITE AMONG TOURISTS
ANKARA (A.A) - 10.08.2010 - Nearly 1.5 million out of a total of 3.5 million tourists who visited Turkey in June this year chose the country's Mediterranean coasts, according to data released by the Turkish Tourism Ministry.
1.4 million tourists visited major holiday spots in Turkey's southern and southwestern resorts with Russians on the top of the list, followed by Britons, Iranians and Bulgarians.
The number of tourists visiting Turkey in June 2010 increased by 7.26 percent year-on-year to reach 3.5 million as the figure was up 9.26 percent to 11.57 million in the first six months this year.
Germany was placed first to send most tourists to Turkey in January-June period in 2010 with 1.68 million, which was followed by Russia with 1.25 million.
The number of Syrian and Iranian tourists also saw an increase in the six-month period as the number of Syrian visitors was up to 375,450 from 179,717 last year. And the number of Iranian tourists almost doubled to reach nearly 930 thousand.
