CAR CRISIS IN CAPITAL
Ankara experiences a natural crisis, not a political crisis this time. Snowfall paralyzed the capital. This is the heaviest snowfall in Ankara in 24 years. Citizens were trapped in roads, and criticized the municipality. Many lawmakers were stranded at parliament, meetings were postponed. The hand-over ceremony could not be held at the Transportation Ministry and Supreme Court elections did not take place. School recess was extended, shopping malls were closed. Ankara Mayor Melih Gokcek said, "we haven't seen such a snowfall for years. We spilled 8,750 tons of salt on streets. The problems drivers have faced is because of their worn tyres."
HARHEST REPORT
The European parliament (EP), in its recent report on Turkey, criticized Ankara. It said there was no progress in Balyoz and Ergenekon cases, and expressed concern over arrest of journalists. The report said Turkey could not illuminate Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink killing.
FOREIGN MINISTRY: UNILATERAL REPORT!
Foreign Ministry said EP's report had elements that contradicted realities and that could not be accepted. A Foreign Ministry statement said, "we can see that a few parliamentarians from certain countries have acted with internal political concerns at the risk of ignoring European Union's interests."
