14 GENERALS NOT EXPELLED
Vatan daily newspaper has reached decisions of the Supreme Military Council (YAS) meeting, which will be made public after presented to President Abdullah Gul for his approval on Thursday. Turkish public was expecting 14 generals to be made retired in the meeting, however in the last minute, the council decided to extend their posts for one more year in order to strengthen new chief of general staff's hand. The generals will remain at the same rank for one more year.
"MR. TECHNOLOGY" BECOMES FIRST DEPUTY MINISTER IN TURKEY
Professsor Davut Kavranoglu, an expert of satellite communication and surveillance systems, became the deputy of Industry & Technology Minister Nihat Ergun. Turkey's first appointed deputy minister is Professor Kavranoglu, a lecturer at the Yalova University's Computer Engineering Faculty. Known as "Mr. Technology" or "Technology Master", Kavranoglu is very closely known in the United States.
INFLATION DOWN 0.41 P.C. LAST MONTH
When there was no change in food prices despite Ramadan, the consumer prices were down 0.41 percent in July. Producer prices dropped 0.03 percent. Green pepper was the price rise champion of the previous month. The annual inflation was 6.31 percent in consumer prices, and 10.34 percent in producer prices.

SUSPENSION TO YAS CRISIS
The Supreme Military Council has completed its three-day works. Gen. Necdet Ozel became the new chief of the General Staff while Gen. Hayri Kivrikoglu was appointed as the new commander of the land forces. Meanwhile, situation of 14 jailed generals and admirals escalated tension during the meeting. The government wanted that those military personnel to be retired. The military wing insisted on extension of their tenure. In the end, it was decided that the jailed generals and admirals will keep their positions for a year.
TARBZONSPOR BIDS FAREWELL
Trabzonspor has bidden farewell to the UEFA Champions League. Trabzonspor drew 1-1 with Portugal's Benfica in the second leg match in Istanbul's Ataturk Olimpiyat Stadium. The team, which was defeated by Benfica 2-0 in the first leg, will proceed to the UEFA Europa League.

TWO NEW FAULT LINES IN KURDISH PROBLEM
Prosecutors asked for 15 years prison terms for 98 mayors, who were members of former Democratic Society Party (DTP), on Wednesday. The mayors had said, "conditions in which (head terrorist Abdullah) Ocalan can contribute to a solution should be created." The previous day, PKK gave a message that it could end cease-fire. Both developments indicate that Turkey can face clashes in coming days.
