TURKEY IS AMONG NEW DONOR COUNTRIES, SENIOR UN OFFICIAL

ISTANBUL (A.A) - 09.06.2010 - A senior official from the United Nations (UN) said on Wednesday that Turkey was among new donor countries in its region.
Speaking at the "Millennium Development Goals Regional Conference" in Istanbul, Kori Udovicki, Director of Bureau for Europe & the Commonwealth of Independent States of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), said that Turkey's region was faced with certain problems regarding development during the transition process it was going through nowadays.
Congratulating Turkey for its successes in the recent term, Udovicki said the country had taken its place among new donor countries. 
Udovicki also said that Turkey, together with Russia and new EU-member states in its region, kept contributing to international cooperation more and more, adding these countries had significant development experiences unlike the traditional donors and they would share those experiences with relevant countries.
Secretary General Jan Kubis of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) also said that Turkey did not only play an important role in its region, but it also was a remarkable actor in global arena.
"Millennium Development Goals Regional Conference" is being held in Istanbul with the cooperation of Turkey's State Planning Organization, UNDP and UNECE.
