A Training Course on Transboundary Animal Diseases

Doha, May 28 (QNA) - A training course entitled the " Transboundary Animal Diseases and the quarantine's role in preventing their entry to State of Qatar". The course, organized by the Livestock Management Department at the Ministry of Environment falls within the framework of the training courses the department is making as regard to the development of the livestock. About sixteen trainees of Qatari cadres and the veterinarians from the quarantine section at the Livestock Department as well as other representatives from Hassad Qatar Company and Arab Qatari Company for Poultry Production are also taking part in the course. In his opening address before the course, Livestock Department Director Dr Qasim Al Qahtani ,said it is necessity to identify the transboundary animal diseases and combating them , referring to the definition of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to the transboundary animal disease as " epidemic disease", regardless of the national borders a matter which have serious consequences on the economic, trade , food and security aspects for a large number of countries. The prevention of these diseases requires cooperation and coordination between the countries that had been affected by the rapidly spread of infections among their animals , thus produced a negative impact on economy and the health and productivity of animal, Al Qahtani said. He stressed that this situation requires firm implementation of the rules of the quarantine , especially after the related international organizations expressed deep concern about the transboundary animal diseases via formulating plans and programs to eliminate these animal diseases.(QNA)
