TRAIN SERVICES TO RESUME BETWEEN TURKEY-SYRIA

ADANA (A.A) - 14.06.2010 - Train services between Turkey and Syria are set to resume soon after a nine-month break, said a Turkish official with country's state-run railway company on Monday.
Train services between Turkey's southern city of Mersin and Syria's Aleppo, which were launched last year in March to promote economic and social relations, were pulled out in September due to low demand.
"We were forced to cancel the services because of number of passengers dropped to as low as 9 on average per service from Mersin to Aleppo," Hasan Tahsin Koprulu told the Anadolu Agency.
Koprulu said the removal of visa requirements between the two countries had helped the demand revive especially by Turkish and Syrian businesspeople.
Koprulu said the services were planned to be scheduled once a week.
