TRA publishes NNP

Manama, Feb. 13 (BNA): The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has issued resolution No. 18/2015 regarding the bylaw of the National Numbering Plan (NNP), which aims to approve and issue NNP in the Kingdom of Bahrain, in line with its authorities as stated in the Telecommunications Law.
TRA aims from updating NNP to ensure its alignment with the standards of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to face the challenges facing the telecommunication sector, promote the use of scarce national resources efficiently and keep abreast of the latest developments and future needs. The plan also aims to strengthen effective competition by enabling fair access to numbering resources.
TRA Director of Technical and Operations Mohammed Abdulla Al Nuaimi said that taking into consideration the responses received from related parties during a public consultation process conducted by TRA in July 2015, NNP has been updated so as to be flexible at facing challenges from various operators and services in the coming years without making any change in the basic structure.
He added that simplified procedures have been added to the plan and more numbers were provided to be allocated by the operators, in order to meet the growing demand for numbers and short codes in particular.
TRA calls on those who are interested to read the updated NNP, which is available on TRA’s website www.tra.org.bh.
TRA was established in 2002 and has been performing independently and in a manner based on transparency and without discrimination with government agencies, consumers, operators and investors to make Bahrain the most advanced communication centre and support the development of the market so as to set a model in the region.
