Tourism through Mekong River booms again

CHIANG RAI, January 20 (TNA) - Regional tourism through the Mekong River appears to be booming again, as tour operators say they are confident of tourists' safety because authorities of Thailand, Laos, Myanmar and China have agreed on joint patrols of their marine security forces. Phakamat Viera, an executive of Mekong Delta Co, insisted on Friday that she is fully confident of people's safety in the Mekong River because authorities of the four nations are protecting all boats in the Mekong River from Sipsongpanna in southern China to the Chiang Saen Port in Thailand's northern Chiang Rai Province. Two Thai tour boats, 120-seat Mekong Delta and 80-seat seatsKasalongkham, have served tourists between the China's Guan Lei Port, Chiang Rai's Chiang Saen Port and Laos' Luang Phrabang. (TNA)
