TROUBLE CAUSED BY INFORMANT 
An Ankara resident, born in 1968, objected from Istanbul to all independent candidates of Peace & Democracy Party (BDP) with a petition reminding of a police report. The Supreme Board of Election (YSK) put the petition in process, and afterwards, the cancellation decision came.
Cabbar Leygara, the attorney of Leyla Zana and Hatip Dicle, said that YSK had put the application in process although the reclamation period had not started, and it had ruled for the cancellation of candidacies. "There is another plot behind this decision. Temporary lists should have been announced first," the attorney said. 

LET PARLIAMENT CONVENE IN EXTRAORDINARY SESSION AND DECIDE
Republican People's Party (CHP) chairperson Kemal Kilicdaroglu said that a solution could be found (on YSK's cancellation decision) without interrupting the election timetable, if everybody acted with good intentions and in accordance with the principles of democratic representation. "We propose that the parliament shall take the necessary measures as soon as possible, including pulling down the electoral threshold," Kilicdaroglu said.

SUMMIT LIKE ICE IN BRUSSELS
A meeting of the Association Council between Turkey and the European Union (EU) took place in Brussels on Tuesday. During the meeting, the two sides harshly criticized each other. An EU official described the meeting as "very negative and far from being constructive". Turkey criticized the EU for not implementing visa exemption to Turkish citizens and for placing political obstacles in the face of negotiations. On the other hand, the EU displayed an approach that put forward basic freedoms including freedom of the press.

TURK TELEKOM INVESTS 314 MILLION TL TO INFRASTRUCTURE
Turkey's telephone company Turk Telekom Group invested 314 million Turkish liras (TL) to infrastructure in the first quarter of 2011. Compared to the same term last year, Turk Telekom's investment in infrastructure increased by 54 percent.

MESSAGE TO BRUSSELS: IMPLEMENT VISA LIBERALIZATION
The Association Council meeting between Turkey and the European Union (EU) took place in Brussels on Tuesday. The meeting mainly focused on the reform process in Turkey. During the meeting, Turkey demanded that a process for visa liberalization should begin immediately.

PROMISE FOR NEW HIGHWAYS WORTH 46 BLN USD
In an election manifesto, the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party said that the Turkish government would erect 5,275 kilometers long of highways in Turkey by the year 2023. 12 highway projects will be realized under the model build-operate-transfer and will cost over 46 billion USD.

SIGNAL FOR RETURN FROM VETO
The head of Turkey's Supreme Board of Election (YSK) opened the door slightly for the independent applicants whose candidacies have been cancelled. "If we receive new documents, we will assess them," the head official said.
In the meantime, Ankara is trying to find a way to get over the veto crisis. Republican People's Party (CHP) chairperson Kemal Kilicdaroglu called on the parliament to convene to discuss the matter, while Parliament Speaker Mehmet Ali Sahin criticized YSK. In the afternoon, YSK's head Ali Em said, "If candidates bring us the court decisions lifting the restriction order about them, we will assess these documents. There is still time for reclaims".

ASSAILANT IS MENTALLY ILL
It has been revealed that Mehmet Celikel, who has stabbed Turkish painter Bedri Baykam and his assistant Tugba Kurtulmus, has been receiving treatment for manic-depressive disorder. Officials said that Celikel had spent 6 months in prison 3 years ago for stabbing his second wife's ex-fiancee. Meanwhile, Celikel's brother and brother-in-law were also detained as part of the ongoing investigation.

TURKISH PAINTER BAYKAM TAKEN OUT OF INTENSIVE CARE UNIT
Renowned Turkish painter Bedri Baykam was taken out of the intensive care unit he was receiving medical treatment in on Tuesday. Baykam was wounded in a broad-daylight stabbing in Istanbul on Monday.

ALEX TO BECOME TURKISH CITIZEN
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan received Tuesday the President of Fenerbahce Sports Club Aziz Yildirim and the captain of the Fenerbahce Football Team Alex. Brazilian football star Alex told Erdogan that he wanted to become a Turkish citizen.

THERE IS BAN, BUT THERE IS NO LAW
The Supreme Board of Election (YSK) broke the law while it cancelled the candidacy of 12 independent applicants 7 of whom were supported by Peace & Democracy Party (BDP). With such decision, the board disregarded the reform on Turkish Criminal Code (TCK), as well as the law's Article 53 which says "restriction ends with execution". Due to reactions, a glimmer of hope has risen yesterday evening. The board said it would make a reassessment if it received the necessary documents.

ANGER ABOUT YSK CARRIED TO STREETS
The veto decision about the independent candidates set the streets on fire. In Istanbul, police teams stopped the crowd walking from Taksim Square to Aksaray to protest the decision. There was unrest in numerous cities including southeastern provinces of Diyarbakir and Hakkari, and eastern province of Van.

PARLIAMENT SHOULD HOLD AN URGENT SESSION TO BRING DOWN ELECTORAL THRESHOLD, SAYS KILICDAROGLU
Chairman of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), Kemal Kilicdaroglu, said that the Higher Board of Election's (YSK) recent decision to cancel the candidacies of several individuals has created a controversial situation. The Turkish Parliament should hold an urgent session to discuss ways for a solution and to bring down the electoral threshold, Kilicdaroglu stressed.

TRADE VOLUME OF 4 BLN USD BETWEEN TURKEY AND INDIA VERY LOW, SAYS CAGLAYAN
Turkish State Minister for foreign trade, Zafer Caglayan, said Tuesday that the trade volume of four billion USD between Turkey and India was very low and that it should be increased. Minister Caglayan asked Indian officials to let Turkish companies have a share in the infrastructure projects worth 500 billion USD.

ALEX WANTS TURKISH CITIZENSHIP
Fenerbahce Football Club's Brazilian star Alex de Souza met with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday. During the meeting, Alex asked for the help of Erdogan so that he could become a Turkish citizen. In return, Erdogan, in a humorous fashion, asked Alex if he had decided on a new name that he would use after becoming a Turkish citizen.

TURKS SPEND 500 MILLION TL ON COFFEE PER YEAR
Turks spend 500 million Turkish liras (TL) on coffee per year. 125 million TL out of this amount gets spent on classic Turkish coffee. 375 million TL per year is spent on instant coffee placed in hot water.

HOW WILL THE STONE BE PULLED OUT OF THE WELL?
Turkey is going through a stressful period after the Supreme Board of Election's (YSK) decision to veto 12 independent candidates including 7 applicants supported by Peace & Democracy Party (BDP). YSK, which has stepped back due to rising reactions, said that candidacies in question could be accepted if missing documents were delivered to it. Eyes are now set on the documents to be submitted and the decision to be taken.

MONEY CHANGES HANDS
Central Bank Governor Durmus Yilmaz handed over his post to Erdem Basci. Speaking at the handover ceremony, Basci said his vision would be the same with Yilmaz. Emphasizing the importance of Central Bank's institutional identity and independence, Basci said, "We are sharing Mr. Yilmaz's plan, vision and mission".
