Thailand urges Myanmar to release detained children, aged people

BANGKOK, July 8 (TNA) - Thailand has asked Myanmar to free-up a group of Thai nationals detained since last Wednesday for border trespassing. So far, about 30 of them have managed to return home, but up to 40 others, including children and women, are still held by Myanmar soldiers. They were detained opposite Kra Buri border district in the southern Ranong province, after allegedly entering Myanmar territory to plant rubber trees. Thai officials had responded saying the group was misled by brokers into thinking that the area was on the Thai side and was available for cheap price. (TNA)
